Sticky/Dusty/Wet
NOVEMBER 2013 - MARCH 2014
Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, OH
(Columbus, OH) – The Columbus Museum of Art presents the first one-person museum exhibition of Matthew Brandt, a Los Angeles-based photographer recently named one of “The Top 30 Under 30 in Art and Design” by Forbes. The exhibition is on view at CMA November 15, 2013 – March 9, 2014.
Brandt has been the focus of steady critical attention for his bold, often playful experiments with obsolete processes into which he embeds unexpected elements from the real world – bubblegum, Jell-O, honeybees, dust, and water. In bringing such materials into his practice Brandt pushes the medium’s boundaries and suggests an expanded visual lexicon.
MATTHEW BRANDT Sticky/Dusty/Wet comprises eighteen works, some as large as 9 x 6 feet and made as recently as 2013, from a number of series including Lakes and Reservoirs, Honeybees, Taste Tests in Color, and Dust.
“It’s exciting to have the opportunity to introduce such a dynamic artist to the Columbus community,” said Catherine Evans, CMA’s William and Sarah Ross Soter Curator of Photography. “Matthew’s work epitomizes creativity, the core of any artistic process and the cornerstone of what we champion here at the Museum.”
